Winger William Nylander will take Nazem Kadri’s place at center on Toronto’s third line when the Maple Leafs host the Boston Bruins in Game 3 of their first-round series Monday night.

Kadri was facing an in-person hearing with the NHL’s department of player safety on Monday in New York after his cross-check to the head of Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk in the third period of Boston’s 4-1 victory that tied the series 1-1. The NHL has the option to suspend him for more than five games.

The Boston Bruins and the host Toronto Maple Leafs are even at 1-1 in their best-of-7 Eastern Conference quarterfinals series. Which side will earn a key Game 3 victory when the series resumes tonight.

Krug was leveled by Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin in the second period of Game 2 on Saturday. He left the contest and didn’t return.

DeBrusk was cross-checked in the head by Leafs forward Nazem Kadri in the third period of the same game. He also left and didn’t play another shift.

Kadri has a hearing scheduled for Monday afternoon with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety to answer for the cross-check on DeBrusk.

Forward Jake DeBrusk and defenseman Torey Krug will be in the lineup for the Boston Bruins against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference First Round at Scotiabank Arena on Monday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVAS, NESN).

DeBrusk and Krug each sustained an upper-body injury during the Bruins’ 4-1 win in Game 2 on Saturday and were considered day to day. The Boston Bruins-Toronto Maple Leafs matchup in the first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs seemed preordained for months. Can the addition of John Tavares carry.

Hurricanes vs Capitals

Hurricanes vs Capitals: At long last, Raleigh gets to remind the entire hockey world how big of a hockey market it really is, and they will do so as the Carolina Hurricanes lay it all out on the line in a must-win game three of this opening round series against the Washington Capitals.

The Tampa Bay Lightning, the best team in the NHL during the regular season, have fallen behind 3-0 to their first-round opponent, the Columbus Blue Jackets. The surprisingly good St. Louis Blues have a 2-1 lead on the Winnipeg Jets. Even though the Pittsburgh Penguins are the lower seed in their series, many are stunned that they’ve fallen behind the New York Islanders three games to none.

Amidst the chaos, the Capitals took care of business at home in the first two games of their first-round series, giving them an edge to potentially go on another Stanley Cup run.

With Game 3 fast approaching, here’s what you need to know before the Capitals’ first road game of the playoffs.

The District is ready to rock the red again for another Washington Capitals playoff run, their first chance to defend the title after winning the first Stanley Cup in franchise history a year ago.

The postseason starts Thursday for the Capitals as they kick off their first-round series. Here’s everything you need to know before the puck drops.

If you feel compelled, you can chalk those slow starts in Capital One Arena up to nerves, especially in game two. The Capitals started on time and hit the ice ready to play a physical game and impose their will on the Hurricanes, who looked timid and overwhelmed. Now, back on home ice for games three and four, the Canes know what to expect – and they have the home crowd behind them.

If Carolina can conquer their first-period demons, they’ve shown that they can play a strong, heavy game to the end. They have to get to their game quickly, though. The Caps have shown that they’re more than capable of jumping all over them.

NBA Playoffs 2019
Date: Monday, April 15, 2019

The NBA playoffs will build to a crescendo that will reach its peak in June. Right now, the playoffs have just started and it will take at least two weeks for each of the four rounds of the postseason to play out.

The 14 teams that failed to make the playoffs are already in full preparation mode for the 2019-20 season. That means front offices are considering moves to make in free agency and which players to draft. The 16 teams in the playoffs know that the offseason is coming and plans have to be made as well.

Offseason changes may be even more urgent for teams that are good enough to make the postseason but can’t get past the first or second round. Finding the key player who fits their team may allow them to grow substantially.

The Golden State Warriors look to take a commanding lead in their first-round 2019 NBA Playoffs series against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night. Game 2 tips off from Oracle Arena at 10:30 p.m. ET.

The two-time defending NBA champions used a late first-half surge to break open Game 1 and pull away for a 121-104 victory. Steph Curry had 38 points as Golden State won its sixth consecutive postseason opener. With eight three-pointers, Curry passed Ray Allen for the most career postseason triples with 386.

The Clippers drained 11 three-pointers of their own, but were unable to overcome a double-digit deficit in the second half. Golden State is a 13.5-point favorite and the over-under for total points scored is 231 in the latest Warriors vs. Clippers odds. Before you lock in your Warriors vs. Clippers picks, check out the NBA predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

You’ll be able to see the best performance and three honourable mentions from each day, while also having access to all prior “Player of the Night” files, as we see who can tally the most honours this playoffs.

In this piece, we concentrate on the draft and look at each of the teams that have first-round draft picks and select the best player for that team based on need. In some cases, it may be the “best player available.” We go into detail on the top 10.

We are using the draft order found in Tankathon.com, with the understanding that the May 14 draft lottery will change the order.

Williams appears to be a game-changer and a generational player because of his power, athleticism and ability to dominate. He is the kind of player who can turn a team around merely by his presence because of the unstoppable quality to his game. It should be a no-brainer for the Knicks to select him if they win the draft lottery May 14, but it may not be that simple.

They already have a top power forward prospect in Kevin Knox. He may not be at Williamson’s level, but he is clearly one of the best athletes on the team and has a solid future. An argument can be made that selecting Ja Morant or R.J. Barrett might be the better move based on what the team needs,

Warriors will win Round 1 of NBA playoffs, but Clippers will go down fighting originally appeared on it needs a compelling cause or someone to stand up and start a fire. Say no more. Beverley carries a jug of kerosene everywhere he goes.

The bowlegged 6-foot-1 guard used his matchstick disposition Saturday in Game 1 to constantly scratch at Kevin Durant’s pride and patience, raising the intensity to such a degree that lead official Ed Malloy eventually felt it wise to send both to the showers.

The 2019 NBA Playoffs continue Monday with a pair of exciting games. The action starts up with an Eastern Conference affair when the Brooklyn Nets take on the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 2 of a series that Brooklyn surprisingly leads.

The Nets parlayed a 26-point outing from star guard D’Angelo Russell into a 111-102 road victory in the postseason opener on Saturday, stealing home-court advantage away and putting the Sixers in a must-win situation tonight. The double-header concludes with, The Dubs opened the playoffs with a 121-104 statement win and look poised to go up 2-0 at Oracle Arena this evening.

The Warriors will play their final two regular season games on the road, beginning with Tuesday’s game in New Orleans before finishing in Memphis before the playoffs begin next weekend.

As ever with the Sixers, the story is the health of center Joel Embiid. He came out of the All-Star break with a mysterious knee injury that caused him to miss eight games down the stretch,

now it appears he might not play in the opener against Brooklyn. That would be a tough blow to a team that is still working out its chemistry after making two in-season blockbuster trades, first for Jimmy Butler then for Tobias Harris.

The Brooklyn Nets shocked the Philadelphia 76ers with a win in Game 1 of the 2019 NBA Playoffs. Now, the Sixers look to even the score in Game 2, tipping off Monday at 8 p.m. ET. D’Angelo Russell and the Nets’ backcourt were too much for Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

Embiid is expected to be more effective on Monday as his knee continues to come back from a knee injury. Sportsbooks list Philadelphia as an eight-point home favorite, while the over-under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, is 226 in the latest Sixers vs. Nets odds. Before you make any 76ers vs. Nets picks, be sure to see the NBA predictions from SportsLine’s advanced computer model.

This model, which simulates every game 10,000 times, is crushing its NBA picks. It entered Week 26 of the 2018-19 NBA season with a sterling 292-234 record on all top-rated plays. Anybody who has followed it is way up.

Now it has locked in on Sixers vs. Nets. We can tell you it’s leaning over, and it’s also generated a very strong against-the-spread pick that hits in nearly 70 percent of simulations. You can only see it at SportsLine.

A repeat performance seems unlikely after that wake-up call. The Sixers averaged 115.2 points, fourth-most in the NBA, yet managed just 102 against Brooklyn’s 18th-ranked defense. And Embiid, who has 21 straight double-doubles, should be healthier, but is questionable for Monday.

Arsenal goes to Watford on Monday to close out the Premier League’s 33rd matchday as the Gunners aim to get closer to the top four. Arsenal enters the day in sixth place with 63 points and a record of 19-6-7, while Watford is 10th at 13-7-12 with 46 points, and a victory would vault the team into seventh. If the Gunners can manage a victory, they’ll go back into the top four by jumping Manchester United and Chelsea, edging the latter on goal differential.

Watford: This club would love nothing more than to jump back into seventh place behind Arsenal with a victory. There are six spots near mid-table where teams are separated by just six points, so there is a chance Watford could finish in the top half or the bottom half. Based on the remaining schedule, which includes Southampton and Huddersfield, they should feel good about their chances of finishing in the top 10.

Arsenal: The Gunners have to look at this match as an important one to win, though a draw won’t be the end of the world. But considering Watford has lost three of five and shown inconsistency in defense, Arsenal should feel confident about creating enough chances needed to win.

Are you nervous? I’m nervous. And I have quite literally never predicted an Arsenal loss. Ever. That shows you how stupidly optimistic I can be/always am. Yet this may be one of the more nervy matches in awhile, for a couple reasons.

First of all, it runs the risk of looking quite similar to Everton. An annoying away fixture that we should absolutely be winning, but that takes on a whole new light when it comes to being an away match.

There are some key differences though. For starters. Neither Matteo Guendouzi nor Mohamed Elneny should be starting like they were against Everton. I love Guendouzi, but I could use a break for the moment.

In a week in which the UEFA Champions League quarter-final seconds legs will take place, playing a domestic fixture on a Monday night rather than a European game in midweek will only serve as a reminder to Los Blancos what a disappointing campaign they have endured.

In Real’s most recent match, they laboured to a 2-1 win over Eibar, coming from behind courtesy of a Karim Benzema brace. The Frenchman bagged two second-half headers after Marc Cardona handed Eibar the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu:

He could easily have had a hat-trick. The striker had two goals disallowed for offside, with the second a marginal call that required a lengthy VAR review, and he also hit the post.

The goals took his tally to 17 in La Liga this season. Benzema has only been more prolific in the league for Los Blancos in the 2010-11 and 2015-16 seasons, during which he bagged 21 and 24 goals, respectively.

Real have struggled since Cristiano Ronaldo left last summer, which was to be expected when he averaged 50 goals a season in all competitions over the course of his nine campaigns in the Spanish capital.

With seven games left, he will hope to at least hit the benchmark of 20 goals in La Liga again, starting with success against Leganes.

Los Pepineros have only scored 31 goals in as many league matches this season—only Real Valladolid have a less potent attack in La Liga—so Zinedine Zidane’s team should be capable of dealing with them.

That said, Madrid have already lost five times on the road in La Liga this season, including their most recent away match against Valencia on April 3, while Leganes have only lost twice at home.

Boston Marathon Basics Catch up on information you need to know about this year’s race. The 30,000 participants will line up on Main Street in Hopkinton and make their way 26.2 miles through the city and its surrounding towns before racing past the finish line in Copley Square.

And they’ll do so in challenging circumstances. The weather forecast for Monday, per AccuWeather, calls for rain when the first set of participants, the men’s wheelchair race, line up at 9:02 a.m. ET, which has the potential to grow heavy through the other waves, with the last start time scheduled for 11:15 a.m. ET.

However, the rain won’t be raw, and wind shouldn’t be a big factor; the temperature will be in the mid-50s and could rise above 60 in the afternoon. It certainly won’t be as trying as last year’s conditions.

One of the best parts about the Boston Marathon is its humbling ability to unite runners from all walks of live; former athletes and regular folks are one and the same when it comes to 26.2 miles of what’s recognized as one of the world’s most challenging races.

Whether you’re camping out along the route to cheer on friends and family or planning on watching remotely, here’s everything you need to know about the 123rd Boston Marathon.

The race will begin on Main Street in Hopkinton, a suburb of Boston. From there, runners will traverse through suburbs Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley and Newton (location of the infamous Heartbreak Hill) before reaching the city proper.

Once in Boston, runners will take Hereford Street toward Boylston Street to finish in Copley Square near John Hancock Tower.

Along the way, there are plenty of road closures citizens should be aware of. They will take effect from 3:30 a.m. and continue well into the evening.

Hopkinton: 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Ashland: 7:15 a.m-1:45 p.m.

Framingham: 8:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Natick: 8:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Wellesley: 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m.

Newton: 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m.

Brookline: 9 a.m.-5:15 p.m

Boston: Variable-7 p.m. (Boylston Street at 8:00 p.m.)

Many of Boston’s major roads will be affected by closures, including but not limited to sections of Boylston Street, Beacon Street, Newbury Street, Commonwealth Avenue, Columbus Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue.
